주사 전자 현미경(Scanning Electron Microscopy)으로. 고체 표면을 고해상도 이미지로 나타내기 위해 가장 널리 사용되는 방법. 표면에 전자를 방사해 이차 전자에 의한 후방 산란을 측정해 표면 지형을 직접 나타낸다.
